(Antanas ZILINSKAS)

Prof. Hab.Dr. Antanas Zilinskas was born January 5, 1946 in the Panevezys district, Lithuania. He is married, has two children: son and daughter.

He graduated with a gold medal from 2nd Kaunas Gymnasium in 1963 and with honours diploma of Electrical Engineering from Kaunas Technical University in 1968. His Ph.D. studies (doctoral) at Lithuanian Academy of Sciences lasted from 1970 to 1973.

He received degree in technical cybernetics (1973) from Kaunas Technical University, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences degree (Habilitation, 1985) from St.Petersburg University. He was conferred the title of Professor (1989) at Vilnius Pedagogic University.

Starting with a position of a junior research associate up to that of senior research associate (of the highest rank) now he is a Professor and senior research associate at the Optimization Department of the State Research Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. He also was a lecturer at the Vilnius Pedagogic University, (1986 - 1988), has grounded a chair of Informatics (1988), was it's head up to 1993.

He is an academician of International Engineering Academy, a member of American Mathematical Society, IFIP WG 7.6,IEEE Computer Society Working Group, Expert of UNESCO and Editorial boards of Journal of Global Optimization, Control and Cybernetics, and INFORMATICA, reviewer of Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt Mathematik.

He worked as a visiting professor at the Department of Informatics of Dortmund University (1990/1991 academic year); at the Institute of Statistics and Mathematical Economics of Technical University Aachen (winter semester of 1992 - 1993).

He has written six monographs and two text books in Lithuanian, English and Russian and more than 80 scientific papers. Global Optimization, Springer, 1989, written with A.Torn, is the first monograph presenting all known approaches on the subject. The mathematical aspects of the subject are considered in the monograph Methods of Search for Global Optimum, Nauka, 1991 written with A.Zhigliavskij.

His current research interests include global optimization based on statistical models, visualisation of multidimensional objects, optimal design.

Antanas Zilinskas is a member of the Lithuanian Computer Society.

He has good teaching experience in optimization, operations research, parallel algorithms, complexity of algorithms. Languages of teaching are Lithuanian, Russian, English, German.
